Bio
Kaelynne Hernandez is a first-generation Mexican-American artist born and raised in New Haven, Connecticut. Her parents immigrated to the US from Mexico City in the 90s in search of the American dream and a better future for their children. Though initially interested in science, external pressures and expectations pushed her towards her artistic abilities. In 2022, Hernandez graduated from the University of Connecticut with a BFA in Painting/Drawing. She uses art to document and articulate her lived experiences as a BIPOC/Latina/woman, reclaiming her voice and sharing her story authentically in a world that tends to dictate narratives. Her work connects the observable and unobservable worlds, bridging science and the mystical, reality and the spiritual, reflecting her navigation of life as a BIPOC woman and a child of immigrants. Since graduating, she has had many art shows in local spaces, aiming to connect with others who share similar dichotomic experiences. She spends most of her days in the studio painting or engaging with the arts community in New Haven. An upcoming project she is excited about is painting a mural at the Armory in affiliation with Yale and four other local artists. Two fun facts about her are that she loves animals and her zodiac sign is Pisces!
